Yafai vs Foster And MORE: 3 More Amazing Domestic Clashes We Must See in 2021
Part two to ‘3 Thrilling UK Domestic level Fights We Must See in 2021’ featuring Yafai vs Foster and two more massive, exciting domestic, British level clashes we must see in 2021 including the highly anticipated British, Commonwealth and European Title unification at Super-Bantamweight: Foster vs Yafai. Additionally, we see another intriguing rematch and a British/Commonwealth unification.
Yafai vs Foster
Brad Foster Retains British And Commonwealth Titles. Yafai Vs Foster
The BBBofC have recently ordered Brad Foster to defend his British Title against Gamal Yafai, the EBU also have Foster at #1 for Yafai’s title and are likely to order Yafai vs Foster as Yafai’s European Title Mandatory defence. Yafai vs Foster is a terrific fight to make right now and would establish a clear #1 domestically as well as being a fight British fans really want to see.
However, it is very unlikely to happen due to Brad Foster being signed with Queensberry Promotions and Gamal Yafai with rival promoters Matchroom Boxing. The pair have struggled before to agree on fights in the past and Yafai vs Foster will be no exception. Both fighters have titles though and may not want to vacate which means it is likely they will both step-a-side to go into bigger fights.
Yafai and Foster are both ranked with only one governing body: IBF at Number 9 and 11 which would make Yafai vs Foster an even bigger and better fight to make right now. With #1 and #2 spots being vacant Yafai vs Foster could be a world title eliminator and the winner would be in a really strong position to challenge for a world title in late 2021.
McGregor vs Farooq 2
Mcgregor Beats Kash Farooq Via Split Decision
Lee McGregor fought fellow undefeated Scottish fighter Kash Farooq in a 50/50 battle of contenders to unify the British and Commonwealth titles. On that occasion, McGregor won a controversial split-decision but the first fight was a thriller and a rematch is much desired by fight fans sometime in 2021.
Now that Lee McGregor is the British, Commonwealth and European Champion and heavily ranked in the world by the IBF and Farooq signing with Matchroom, this fight is unlikely to happen in 2021 as they are both on different paths. McGregor is on the verge of a world title shot and Farooq is still several levels behind at the moment.
McGregor would need to suffer a defeat or Farooq would need a significant win to see them collide again. Nevertheless, McGregor vs Farooq 2 is a very interesting rematch for fight fans and likely to deliver another great fight.
Arthur vs Richards
Lyndon Arthur Upsets Anthony Yarde To Retain Commonwealth Title
Just One Week after Joe Joyce upset the odds and stopped ‘the future of the heavyweight division’ Daniel Dubois, Lyndon Arthur followed by beating Former World Title Challenger and heavily popular Anthony Yarde to retain his Commonwealth strap. Less than two weeks later, Craig Richards dethroned British Champion Shakan Pitters by stoppage; also as an underdog.
Yarde-Buatsi was being talked about as a big domestic light-heavyweight clash but after recent inactivity from Buatsi and Yarde suffering defeat, why not Arthur vs Richards next? It would be a British and Commonwealth title unification and establish a #1 domestically. Arthur is contracted to rematch Yarde but that does not have to be next.
It shouldn’t be that difficult of a fight to make, they are both undefeated domestic champions. It would be a big fight and Richards is not signed with a major promotional company. Furthermore, the winner could command a big domestic fight and European title unification with Callum Johnson as well as being in the conversation for a world title shot in the 18 months after.
