Broncos call for Tallis to embrace club again
Brisbane veteran Alex Glenn has called for disgruntled club legend Gorden Tallis to embrace the Broncos again.New Brisbane coach Kevin Walters is committed to a recruitment drive aimed at luring Broncos old boys back to the club. It began with the appointment of former champion prop Petero Civoniceva to a hybrid role in welfare and coaching, while club greats Wally Lewis and Gene Miles have addressed the squad during the summer. But there are no signs yet of Tallis moving past his bitter rift with Brisbane, which has seen the 160-match Broncos icon jump at any chance to slam the club ever since retiring in 2004.Gorden Tallis during his career with the Brisbane Broncos. (AAP) (AAP)Glenn said he would love Tallis to become a Bronco at heart again.”He used to turn up to our BBQs and bring his kids in and say hello to the boys,” Glenn told Wide World of Sports.”It’d be good to have him back around. He’s done so much for this club. He was ‘The Raging Bull’ for a reason and he left it all out on the field. It’d be good to have him back around the club again.”He’d be a great mentor and the things he could provide for our younger boys coming through would be incredible – players like Jordan Riki, who plays in the back row and could slot into the middle as well. I reckon he could really benefit from Gordy.”Tallis was furious at the Broncos for opting for Anthony Seibold instead of Walters in 2018 and was one of the most cutting critics of the club throughout their abysmal 2020 season, in which they crashed to their first wooden spoon in history.Brisbane Broncos coach Kevin Walters during pre-season training. It’s a privilege.”Walters addressed Tallis’ animosity toward the club last year, saying “I believe he’s a Bronco and we’ll get him back in the stable before too long”.If the Broncos mentor does manage to win back the former Brisbane captain, Glenn and co. will be thrilled. For a daily dose of the best of the breaking news and exclusive content from Wide World of Sports, subscribe to our newsletter by clicking here!
